As we welcome Miles Morales back to Cineworld screens in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the character's on-screen destiny is expanding.
Sony's Amy Pascal, a producer on both the Spider-Verse movies and the Tom Holland-starring Marvel blockbusters, says a live-action Miles Morales movie is headed our way.
At the Los Angeles premiere of Across the Spider-Verse, Pascal told reporters for Variety, "You'll see all of it", adding: "It's all happening."
Naturally, Pascal wouldn't be drawn as to whether Miles' voice actor Shameik Moore would reprise his role in live-action form.
Meanwhile, Pascal's co-producer Avi Arad confirmed a new Spider-Woman movie that is set to centre around Hailee Steinfeld's Spider-Verse character, Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen.
Arad told reporters that the movie will arrive "sooner than you expect".
This elicited a delighted response from Steinfeld herself who said: "This is like my dream job, sign me up over and over again. I got to be comfortable! And it’s a dream to be in a space that feels so comfortable but also creative and free and just exciting to be a part of.”
In Across the Spider-Verse, Gwen takes Miles into the mind-bursting multiverse where he is greeted by the Spider Society, headed up by Miguel O'Hara/Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac).
A schism soon develops when Miles disagrees with O'Hara as to how to tackle new villain The Spot (Jason Schwartzman), whose body is dotted with portals to the multiverse.
Before long, the multiverse goes into freefall as a result of Miles' action, resulting in a frenetic and visually wondrous spectacle that, according to critics, implodes our notion of Spider-Man's identity.
The movie is said to push the boundaries of animation and is already being hailed as one of the best Spider-Man movies ever made. So, what about Tom Holland's return to the live-action Spider-Man front? Will we get a fourth movie following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home?
“Are we going to make another movie?" Pascal responded. "Of course, we are. We’re in the process, but the writer's strike, nobody is working during the strike. We’re all being supporters and whenever they get themselves together, we’ll get started.”
Sony chief, Tom Rothman, however, is playing his cards closer to his chest, saying humorously: "If I told you, I'd have to kill you."
