The 5 funniest Minions moments ranked

The Minions took the world by storm following the release of the original Despicable Me in 2010, and the adorably anarchic sidekicks got their own spin-off blockbuster in 2015.

This summer, the Minions are taking centre-stage in Despicable Me 4, coming to Cineworld cinemas on July 12th. Remember to combine your Despicable Me experience with the Cineworld Family Ticket and be more childish together.

To celebrate the occasion of a new Despicable Me film, we thought we’d take a hilarious trip down memory lane and present what we feel are the five funniest Minions moments so far. Grab a banana – things are about to get silly!

5. Photocopying butts (Despicable Me)

There’s nothing quite so amusing as photocopying one’s own derriere, is there? At least, there’s nothing funnier for the Minions than doing just that. The trio of Minions are so distracted by the hilarity of the situation that they don’t notice the ship in the background that only narrowly misses skewering them.

4. Dave falls for Lucy (Despicable Me 2)

While going undercover in a bakery, the Minions head into the back while Gru deals with secret agent Lucy (Kristen Wiig). Dave the Minion, heads back out after a minute to show off his deftly made Minion cupcake. Lucy kicks it out of the poor chap’s hand, goes full ninja and threatens to beat him up, too.

Lucy apologises and Dave sees her in a new, romantic light. What proceeds is a hilarious and unexpected romantic montage between the unlikely couple. Sadly, for Dave, it’s all just a daydream – Gru and Lucy are meant for each other, not a Minion and a person. Sorry, Dave.

3. Firefighters (Despicable Me 2)

The Minion firefighters perfectly encapsulate what everyone loves about these yellow 'helpers'. Gru wants to take his relationship with Lucy to the next level, trialling a phone call between the pair with one of his trusted Minions. The situation is too stressful for Gru, who takes his frustration out on the telephone by melting it with a flamethrower.

Before the small fire can spread, however, another set of Minions burst into the room, axes flailing, and fail to put out the fire, all while an annoying “bee do, bee do, bee do” alarm is repeated by one of the helpful trio. It’s loud, ineffectual and hilarious, one of the best Minions moments, and imitated by children (to the irritation of their parents) the world over.

2. Tortured by Blerb (Minions)

Being led to a torture chamber filled with evil-looking contraptions designed only for your pain and suffering would be a nightmare for pretty much anyone. Not so for the Minions, apparently. In this scene, the Minions discover that there’s nothing quite so fun as being tortured.

It starts off scary, but the brave trio find the entire situation hilarious once it begins. The trio slip and slide from a hangman’s noose for a start. It all gets a bit silly, with plenty of photos to remember the “fun” torture chamber. What a way to make the best out of a terrifying and potentially life-ending situation, eh?

1. Minions can’t keep a boss (Minions)

There’s nothing the Minions enjoy more than a nefarious boss. The trouble is, finding one proved to be tricky for the yellow fellas. During the opening montage of the Minions movie, we travel through time with the hapless creatures, discovering in the process that they can't retain any of the bosses they find, often killing them in unlucky, inventive and hilarious ways.

The unlucky guys go through a T-Rex, a caveman, a pharaoh and even a vampire. It’s inventive, clever, and fun, and also serves as a twisted history lesson of sorts for younger viewers. We can’t help but feel sorry for the evil bosses of the Minions, but at least we know what happened to Napoleon “blown apart” now.
