A three-day extravaganza of teasers, updates and first looks D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, run by Disney's official fan club, is the single most important event in any self-respecting Disney fan’s calendar.
It's an expo that allows Disney to tease its upcoming films while giving fans a glimpse of whether their Disney dreams are coming true. Now in its eighth year, the event didn't disappoint, with news of animation, family favourites, action movies, and superhero franchises all up for grabs.
Revealed! X-Men reboot cast AND release date
Marvel Studios had some stellar unveilings to do at D23. We have a new Professor X: Christopher Abbott (Wolf Man, Sanctuary) is the new Charles Xavier, while Adam Driver takes on the mantle of Mr Sinister. Inde Navarette (you saw her in Obsession) joins as Rogue, and Maya Boyd as Storm. Sadie Sink and Kit Connor also join the line-up. May 5 2028 is the date it’s all happening.
Guess which characters get a turn in the spotlight in Incredibles 3
It’s the third outing for the suburban superhero family, and what did we learn? Something we’ve long waited for is happening; the focus is on the kids. Violet and Dash are desperate to follow in their parents’ footsteps and protect their city, but Mum and Dad take a dim view. Think parental approval is enough to stop the teens? What do teens do when they can’t get their way? They do it anyway…
Add to this that Violet and Dash find Jack Jack hard to handle, and Mr Incredible is struggling to feel relevant. You’ve got a potentially explosive and hilarious outing for our favourite animated superhero family. Which you’ll have to wait til 16 June 2028 for.
Miguel is all grown-up in Coco 2
An early release of sketches for the upcoming Coco sequel was enough to whet fans' appetites. Although the release date is all the way in November 2029, it was thrilling to learn that Miguel has grown up from the little boy who followed his dreams in the first movie to a teenager.
We also learn that Benjamin Bratt voices Ernesto de la Cruz, a hero-turned-antagonist hell-bent on revenge. Yes, it’s a three-year wait, but think of all the times you’ll be able to rewatch Coco before then!
We see who Nero the cat is up against in Gatto
Nostalgic, slower-paced, not quite as overstimulating, a calmer vibe; that’s what people are eager to experience when viewing Gatto, out 5 March 2027. Pixar’s first hand-painted animation in years is blended with a little CGI, so it’ll have much more of the look of a painting come to life. For the masters of 3D animation, this is a massive departure, and we’re tingly with excitement.
Following Nero, a black cat, in Venice as he probes his life choices while weaving through the city’s backstreets and waterways – well, that’s just crying out for 2D, isn’t it? At D23 we got another glimpse of Rocco, the mob cat, and all we can say is, ya better not mess with him.
There’s going to be a winter wedding in Frozen 3!
The big news from colder climates is that Anna – with sister Elsa by her side, of course – is to marry Kristoff in the third Frozen film. There are even hints that snowman Olaf could have a romantic subplot of his own. It’s out on 24 November 2027 and we know we’ll have to but we just can’t wait!
Bluey and Bingo on the big screen – at last!
Fans were treated to a first look at the teaser trailer for The Bluey Movie, out 6 August 2027. The film centres around one life-changing day with a big surprise for Bluey and her family. Looks as delightful as you’d expect; this first outing on the big screen for Bluey will have toddlers and their parents on the edge of their seats until it is released!
Bluey and Bingo play keep-up with the balloon in the air; will they keep it from touching the ground? The lightest hint of jeopardy, friendship and humour all in under a minute.
