Our favourite toys are back! And we can’t be the only ones beside ourselves with excitement. The adventures, the friendships, the heart-warming stories. But also the threat. From destructive Sid in the first Toy Story film to Lotso the bear in 3, those toys have really put us through it over the years.
So what does 5 threaten? Tech. Lilypad, a frog-shaped tablet is taking their beloved human, Bonnie, away from them.
Bonnie only has eyes for Lilypad because that’s what all the cool kids are into. We know from the end of 4 that Woody’s already out in the field saving the toys that have been cast aside as kids reach for screens, phones and consoles. Jessie puts out a distress call to her old friend, appealing for his help. But how will Buzz, Jessie and the gang deal with the pull of the screen?

The fact that these little dudes that are normally stationary in the nursery come alive at all still blows our minds, so imagine Woody, 10 metres high! IMAX screens are massive and you’ll see every stitch of Woody’s waistcoat, every flicker of emotion across his face and [spoiler incoming] the sheen of his bald patch! Yes, Woody’s starting to lose his hair. He’s had a lot to contend with!
But if our heroes and heroines tower over us in our cinema seats in an IMAX viewing, so will the enemies. So be prepared for a ginormous Lilypad, the threat is going to seem HUGE. No wonder Bonnie can’t take her eyes off her.
Jessie gallops to the rescue – watching in 4DX is like hitching a ride on Bullseye
Jessie leads the charge and the toys thunder on behind. You’re going to feel the force of every tiny, determined foot and hoof as it hits the floor and they go in for the save. Those little guys really go all in when it comes to chases.

Step into Toy Story with SCREENX
You want the story world to swallow you up. You wish the characters would somehow step out of the screen. But even the magic of cinema can’t make this possible. SCREENX, though, goes some way to create the illusion.
At key points in the story, the screen gets bigger on both sides. Extra visuals are projected onto the screen edges, widening out the world. So the nursery will become enormous and the world outside during moments of jeopardy, will appear huge.
Everything’s brighter in Superscreen
If you’ve never considered watching a film in a special format before you might want to consider Toy Story 5 in Superscreen. This is exactly the kind of movie that shines in Superscreen. Sound and vision are in the highest definition possible, and everything is elevated. The colours and contrast are vibrant – those little green aliens are going to pop! While Forky and his handmade companion will look wonderful, with pipe cleaners, wonky monobrow and all.
