This January, Unlimited members will be treated to an advance screening of the acclaimed drama The Iron Claw. An all-star cast fronts this dramatic and emotional true story based on the Von Erich family, a brood of professional wrestlers whose achievements were undone by greed, hubris and ambition.
Zac Efron, Harris Dickinson, Jeremy Allen White and Maxwell Jacob play the Von Erich brothers, Kevin, David, Kerry and Lance, whose fierce bonds of loyalty were forged both inside and outside the ring. Holt McCallany plays their overbearing father and manager and Maura Tierney portrays their mother.
As well as the strong ensemble, the movie benefits from the intuitive and impactful direction of filmmaker Sean Durkin. This is Durkin's third feature film following the atmospheric Martha Marcy May Marlene and The Nest, and critics say The Iron Claw bears his signature character-driven hallmarks. The Iron Claw has been praised by critics and Efron has been singled out for delivering a career-best performance. Writing for Rolling Stone, journalist David Fear states: "[Efron's] pumped-up physique makes him look like a god. The lost, needy look in his eyes, especially when he’s around his father, makes him seem like a frightened lad playing adult dress-up. By pitching his performance between those two poles, Efron gets at what drove Kevin: discipline, love, and fear. He anchors the movie."
