We are marking our calendars off as we countdown to Disclosure Day, the latest blockbuster from the directorial legend, Steven Spielberg. Set to be released on 12th June, Disclosure Day is a completely original story from the mind of Spielberg, and will be his first movie since 2022’s The Fabelmans.

“This means something. This is important” in Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) (2nd May)
Roy Neary is all of us when we’ve found our next hyperfixation. And, let’s face it, UFOs are a pretty cool obsession to have as we continue to question what might be out there in our vast universe – and beyond.
In this quote, Roy has begun experiencing strange visions which leads him to sculpt a specific shape, which later turns out to be Devils Tower. It’s a pivotal moment, though he doesn’t yet understand what it is exactly he’s seeing, only that it matters.
“I am. I was.” in A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) (screening 9th May)
AI has feelings, too, okay? Increasingly, people are ensuring they say their please and thank yous when using generative AI, and perhaps Spielberg’s 2001 classic is a sturdy reminder that AI might – might – have feelings.
This iconic, rather haunting line comes at the end of the film as David reflects on his evolving sense of existence.
“Everybody runs” in Minority Report (2002) (screening 16th May)
Delivered by Tom Cruise as Chief John Anderton, this is a line that comes back to bite his character later on in Minority Report. He says it, commenting on the assumption that if you’re accused of murder and attempt to run away, you are proving your own guilt.
However, later on in the movie, he is predicted to commit a murder, and, what do you know? Tom Cruise is running in yet another movie. Why? Because he knows the system is flawed and he will not be found innocent. Really, it’s quite a scathing commentary on the justice system.
When John Hammond says “Welcome to Jurassic Park” in Jurassic Park (1993) (screening 18th May)
It’s not just the quote; it’s everything that goes with this moment. John Hammond, played by the glorious Richard Attenborough, delivers this line as he reveals the living dinosaurs roaming Jurassic Park. Of course, it’s a film that gave everyone goosebumps as Sam Neill and Ellie Sattler take in the Brachiosaurus as it playfully eats from the top of a tree.
Honorary mentions: “Life finds a way.” / “Hold on to your butts.”
“Do you concur?” in Catch Me If You Can (2002) (screening 22nd May)
Something of a catch phrase for Frank Abagnale Jr., as he wiggles his way out of every sticky situation he finds himself in. This is very much his slight of hand, impersonating authority figures and dazzling them with his confident, pretentious language that convinces others of his legitimacy.
Honorary mention: “Why do the Yankees always win? Because the other team can’t stop looking at their pinstripes.”

“To live would be an awfully big adventure” in Hook (1991) (screening 23rd May)
The whimsical nature of Peter Pan’s story is captured in this line from Hook said by Peter Pan, played by the beloved Robin Williams. It captures his penchance for embracing life and avoiding ever growing up.
Honorary mention: “Oh, there you are, Peter!”
“E.T. phone home” from E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) (screening 25th May)
It may seem like an obvious answer, but the moment E.T. begins to learn how to communicate with Elliot is such a wholesome moment with a bittersweet edge as evident in the fact E.T. is feeling lonely so far from home. His childlike English is the very same reason we’re now all also obsessed with how Rocky speaks in Project Hail Mary.
Honorary mention: “I’ll be right here.”
“P-51! Cadillac of the sky!” in Empire of the Sun (1987) (screening 27th May)
There’s one way to disassociate from the horrors of war, and we see this as Jim shouts, with childish glee, right in the middle of the chaos of war. Played by a young Christian Bale, he is fascinated by planes, and no amount of bombs or fear of potential death can dim his enthusiasm upon seeing a particular plane soar through the sky.

“They’re here” in Poltergeist (1982) (screening 1st June)
This may seem like a fairly uninspired quote choice, but when you’re talking about the supernatural, the foreboding use of “they” definitely creates a certain, eerie atmosphere. This is said by Carol Anne Freeling as she makes contact with the other side through the TV. It’s made all the more chilling by her completely calm, innocent tone. No big deal, just talking to a poltergeist.
“People come to the OASIS for all the things they can do, but they stay for all the things they can be.” in Ready Player One (2018) (screening 4th June)
We love a line that beautifully encapsulates what a film is all about, and this is it for Ready Player One, a book to screen adaptation by Ernest Cline. In it, the characters find solace and a sense of self in the virtual world, able to reinvent themselves in the world of OASIS.
“Would it help?” in Bridge of Spies (2015) (screening 8th June)
Rudolf Abel is a pretty unshakeable character and it’s illustrated perfectly in this line. Rather than deliberating over the ifs and buts, he calmly reflects on his stoic worldview and determines that no amount of worry could change the outcome. He repeats this line over and over, and its power builds.
