What's that coming over the hill? Turns out it is a monster – several of them. In 2025, we're getting a brand new Jurassic World movie, which is officially named Jurassic World Rebirth. The title treatment, showcasing the nostalgic dino skeleton design from the earlier Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movies, was revealed on social media.
What is Jurassic World Rebirth about?
The movie follows on from the Jurassic Park films, variously directed by Steven Spielberg and Joe Johnston, and the Colin Trevorrow-helmed Jurassic World trilogy.
The official synopsis is as follows: "Five years after the events of Jurassic World: Dominion, the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind."
Who stars in Jurassic World Rebirth?
Scarlett Johansson leads the cast having already dabbled in blockbuster fare with her role as Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Johansson plays “skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett, contracted to lead a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure genetic material from the world’s three most massive dinosaurs. When Zora’s operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinos, they all find themselves stranded on an island where they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that’s been hidden from the world for decades.”
She's joined by Bridgerton and Fellow Travellers star Jonathan Bailey, here playing paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis; and two-time Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali (Moonlight; Green Book), who is soon to act as the MCU's new iteration of Blade. Ali portrays Zora's team leader Duncan Kincaid.
The cast also includes Rupert Friend (The Death of Stalin), Ed Skrein (Deadpool) and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Magnificent Seven). Check out the following first-look images of Johansson, Bailey and Ali.
Who is directing Jurassic World Rebirth?
Monsters, Godzilla and Rogue One helmer Gareth Edwards is directing the new Jurassic World movie. Edwards is working from a script by Jurassic Park scribe David Koepp. The film is described as an “action-packed new chapter [that] sees an intrepid team racing to secure DNA samples from the three most colossal creatures across land, sea and air”.
