Journey to the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes in special formats IMAX, 4DX, ScreenX and Superscreen

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is the latest dramatic and engrossing chapter in the Planet of the Apes saga. (Remember to click here and claim your free bespoke Matt Ferguson poster.) Some 300 years after the events of War for the Planet of the Apes (2017), intelligent simian Noa (Owen Teague) forms a bond with feral young human Nova (Freya Allen) while the warmongering Proximus Caesar (Kevin Durand) attempts to claim power for himself.

Directed by Wes Ball (The Maze Runner), the film is painted on an epic scale and sports the breathless, photo-realistic performance capture effects that have become the signature of this acclaimed franchise. The movie promises to deepen our understanding of the various ape factions as it bridges the gap with the original 1968 Planet of the Apes film starring Charlton Heston.

Your Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes experience will be heightened and enhanced when you see the film in premium formats, several of which are exclusive to Cineworld. Scroll down to find out more.

IMAX paints the Planet of the Apes on a staggering scale

IMAX's larger-than-usual screens combine with a unique remastering process. The visual sharpness and clarity fully transform every frame to produce the best possible version of a filmmaker’s vision. This is what fans demand from a movie like Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which abounds with the visually striking imagery for which the series is famous, from apes on horseback to post-apocalyptic vistas where humans have retreated into the shadows.

Director Wes Ball's array of set pieces actively harness the IMAX format, and several of those anticipate classic moments from the 1968 original like the aerial shot of the enhanced apes closing in on the primitive, terrifying humans with nets. However, it's not just the IMAX canvas that deepens one's engagement.

With dual projection, the IMAX image has the perfect balance of warmth and sharpness to draw you into something as close to reality as you have ever experienced. This imbues Noa's journey with a greater sense of warmth as he seeks a bond with the long-suffering humans, IMAX drawing out the lush greens in the overgrown and increasingly human-hostile landscape.

IMAX auditoriums have also been equipped with a perfectly tuned integrated sound and speaker system for heart-pounding audio that will blow you away. From the roars of the apes themselves to John Paesano's score, the sound design is an active part of an ongoing drama designed to provoke and excite in equal measure.

4DX makes you feel the visceral impact of the ape/human conflict

The 4DX multi-sensory format is unique to Cineworld cinemas in the UK and Ireland. Motion-programmed seats are timed to every facet of Noa's journey as he ventures beyond his ape-friendly enclave into the great unknown.

Scents and effects, including rain and wind, lend tangibility and heft to everything from the breeze blowing through all-encompassing foliage in the landscape to the brutal chest-thumping of the saga's new villain, Proximus Caesar. From the safety and comfort of your cinema seat, 4DX draws on its ability to make one feel the impact of primitive conflict, fitting for a film about primal savagery clashing with compassionate understanding.

To reiterate, 4DX is an experience wholly unique to Cineworld. Find out more about 4DX in the following clip.

ScreenX surrounds you with all manner of ape mayhem

ScreenX, another Cineworld exclusive, employs an enveloping 270-degree effect that projects the film onto the side walls of the auditorium. The movie subsequently extends beyond your peripheral vision to put you in the heart of the action and the emergent Planet of the Apes mythology.

If you've never experienced ScreenX, watch the following clip and discover why 270-degree vision is the way to go.

Superscreen uses a larger screen size to make the movie feel like a masterpiece

Unique to Cineworld, Superscreen fuses state-of-the-art projection, delivered on huge screens, with breathtaking multidimensional sound powered by epic Dolby Atmos speakers. In other words, it'll make you feel like you're there, standing alongside Noa as he becomes the unlikely new hero of the Planet of the Apes saga.
