Houston, we have a problem: a bacchanalian teenage rave in outer space. That's the premise of upcoming sci-fi drama Voyagers, from Limitless director Neil Burger. Ever wanted to see a group of hot young rising stars go Wolf of Wall Street in a space module? Now's your chance.
Actually, the trailer for the movie indicates that this will be a PG-13 rating in the USA (maybe a 12A or 15 over here), so we perhaps won't expect anything too graphic. Nevertheless, the scenario is an intriguing one. Johnny Depp's daughter Lily-Rose Depp leads the cast as one of several youngsters who are sent into the unknown to find a new home. Naturally, it doesn't take long for avarice, desire and, eventually, violence to take over amidst the claustrophobic confines of their ship.
As the Bradley Cooper vehicle Limitless proved, Burger has a good eye for psychedelic visuals and surreal situations. The talented cast also includes X-Men's Tye Sheridan, Dunkirk's Fionn Whitehead, Game of Thrones' Isaac Hempstead Wright and, representing the older generation, In Bruges' Colin Farrell. Can his character be trusted? On the basis of his shifty body language in the trailer, we think not.
Voyagers is currently set for a UK cinema release but the exact date is unknown. Stay tuned to the blog and Twitter @Cineworld for more details.
