Cineworld Unlimited members were given a special treat on Tuesday (May 9th) as we invited them to a showing of epic drama The Eight Mountains. Directed by Felix van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch, this Italian adventure tells the story of two men who grow up together in a remote Alpine village and then reconnect years later as adults.
After making its debut at the Cannes Film Festival last year, The Eight Mountains has been subject to limited screenings worldwide, and there are no plans for a wider Cineworld release. However, those with an Unlimited membership were given a rare opportunity to experience this poignant tale on Tuesday, with Cineworld's huge, state-of-the-art screens providing the perfect platform for the film's glorious panoramic vistas.
So, what did movie fans make of the film? Here are just a selection of the tweets that filled our inbox after the curtains came down...

This film fan was completely smitten with the movie, praising both the plot and the panoramic views.
Wow that was something else. What a story that had all the emotions, breathtaking scenery and sound. Absolutely amazing 10/10

This Unlimited member had their reservations before the film started, but soon found themselves engrossed in the story.
Bit of a slow burn but a beautifully told tale of friendship through the years. The cinematography was breathtaking. Thought that was going to be a bit of a slog but pleased to say it kept me hooked from the start

The Eight Mountains will also live long in the memory of this particular movie-goer.
An absolutely beautiful film about male friendship. I particularly appreciated the decision to shoot it in the 1.37 aspect ratio, which gave the vistas an epic vertical scale.

This person hailed the fact that Cineworld Unlimited offers the chance to attend screenings of limited-release films.
really enjoyed this film, a lovely story with some amazing cinematography, and it's nice to get the chance to see films like this which are normally only available at the more boutique cinemas

For this movie-goer, though, the positives didn't quite outweigh the negatives, and their overall feeling was one of disappointment.
I think the first 45 minutes were astonishing with a beautiful friendship but sadly the substance ran out of steam, meaning the film unfortunately dragged considerably. I found the plot to be slightly mundane and have no punch to it. Amazing soundtrack though and good ending.

Likewise this film fan, who yearned for something with a bit more oomph.
Beautifully shot, and well acted, but after the first hour, it was struggling to hold my attention, sadly. The gut punch of an ending partly made up for it, but the story needed a bit more pace injecting into it for my taste.
