Who is behind the Ghostface mask in the upcoming Scream VI? That's the tantalising question as the classic horror franchise returns to the big screen, as knowingly meta and blood-soaked as ever.
In 2022, Scream V directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet proved capable successors to the late Wes Craven, whose horror genre mastery and cutting wit had distinguished the Scream franchise.
Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillet are back to steer the latest blood-curdling chapter in the saga as Scream V survivors Sam and Tara Carpenter (Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega) leave the haunted surroundings of small-town Woodsboro for New York City.
If only it were that easy to leave the past behind... It turns out that a copycat Ghostface has pursued them to the Big Apple, setting in motion another terrifying experience that mixes and matches a host of new and familiar characters from across the Scream franchise.
Courteney Cox's tenacious and seemingly invincible Gale Weathers is the only one of the old guard now left to do battle with Ghostface. Also present and correct: Scream 4's Kirby (Hayden Panetierre), and Scream V survivors Chad (Mason Gooding) and Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown).
Series newcomers include the likes of Laura (Samara Weaving, who starred in Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillet's Ready or Not), Jason (Tony Revolori) and Quinn (Liana Liberato). Those are but three of the fresh faces who may or may not be the killer.
The remaining cast members comprise Jack Champion, Dermot Mulroney, Devyn Nekoda and Josh Segarra, all of whom are new to the series. Is one of them Ghostface?
Still, we're assuming that the killer has to be somebody new... Maybe it's one of the existing characters who has snapped owing to their experiences? One thing's for sure, the ripping new Scream 6 posters (there's a truly unlucky 13 in total) will have you agonising as to the identity of the killer, or killers.
We're taking your bets as to the identity of the new Ghostface, and you'll see if they pay off when Scream VI is released on March 10th.
