On February 9th, Cineworld Belfast attendees were the kings of the world. We hosted a special gala screening of James Cameron's Oscar-winning romantic blockbuster Titanic in 4DX 3D, bringing the history of the ill-fated ship back to the very city in which it was built.
We wanted to immerse audiences in the opulence and the romance of the Titanic, in line with the movie's 25th anniversary. To that end, we hosted the film's first-ever 4DX screening, as audiences were treated to a first-class drinks reception from tuxedoed staff members. Meanwhile, a string quartet provided the soundtrack to a truly memorable evening – more can be discovered in the following behind-the-scenes video.
The sheer scale of James Cameron's vision was tailor-made for the 4DX 3D format. Audiences were thrilled to gain a new, visceral perspective on classic scenes and set pieces via 4DX's multisensory format, which utilises motion-programmed seats in line with wind, scents and rain effects to viewers feel the overwhelming majesty of the Titanic.
The wind ran through people's hair during the outdoor deck sequences, including the unforgettable moment where Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) meets, and saves, Rose (Kate Winslet) for the first time. During the astonishingly well-staged sinking sequence, the seats moved in time with the action, combining with tactile wind effects to evoke a tactile sense of sea spray.

Lucky customers were also able to have their photo taken in front of the iconic Grand Staircase, which cements Jack and Rose's swooning romance in the movie.
