Summer blockbuster season is officially here as the likes of Spider-Man and Indiana Jones swing into action to blow you away.

1. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (on release now)
Prepare to have your mind blown and your eyes widened by the possibilities of the multiverse. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse picks up the mantle of its Oscar-winning predecessor, Into the Spider-Verse, and doubles down on the imaginative capabilities of the animated Spider-Man format, presenting myriad variations on a single comic book character in ways that are inspiring, hilarious and moving.
Centrally, we are again anchored by Brooklyn's finest Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) although just as much of the spotlight is given to Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld). Their journey into the multiverse, and what it means to embody the responsibility of a Spider-Person, fuels this first instalment of a two-part epic (Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is released in 2024).
2. The Boogeyman (on release now)
Horror author Stephen King knows more than a few things about creeping out his audience. One of the writer's scariest and most celebrated short stories now comes to the screen courtesy of Host director Rob Savage, here working with his biggest budget and largest canvas to date.
Two grieving sisters discover latent evil lurking in the closet in this atmospheric chiller that brings childhood fears acutely to life. Are you brave enough to face the Boogeyman on the big screen?
3. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (released June 8th)
Creed II director Steven Caple Jr. keeps the Transformers juggernaut rolling forward as the heroic Autobots confront three new factions: the Maximals, the Predacons and the Terrorcons. Caught in the middle: Anthony Ramos' unsuspecting Brooklyn kid who becomes witness to an epic interstellar feud where everything hangs in the balance.
The all-star voice cast behind the various Transformers includes Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh, Peter Dinklage and Ron Perlman.
4. Chevalier (released June 9th)
This rousing drama adapts the inspiring true story of a skilled musician who, until recently, had been largely airbrushed from history. In 18th-century France, violinist of colour Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, creates a stir through his dynamic and impassioned playing.
Bologne seeks to rise above his tragic background as the son of an African slave and a French plantation owner and he soon becomes the toast of high society, even duelling with the likes of Mozart. However, latent prejudicial tensions and an ill-fated love affair conspire to tarnish his reputation. Talented actor Kelvin Harrison Jr (Waves) brings depth and vibrancy to his portrayal of Bologne who, only now, is being recognised for his stature on the classical stage.
5. The Flash (released June 16th)
Ezra Miller's Barry Allen/The Flash has zipped in and out of the DC Extended Universe, but now gets his own solo showcase in this visually inventive and suitably fast-paced adventure. IT director Andy Muschietti adapts the fan-favourite Flashpoint storyline as Barry grapples with his tragic past, and in the process threatens to disrupt the entire time-space continuum.
Nevertheless, something truly awesome comes out of Barry's meddling: the return of Michael Keaton's Batman for the first time since 1992's Batman Returns. There's also room for Ben Affleck's Batman and the big screen debut of Sasha Calle as Supergirl.
6. No Hard Feelings (released June 21st)
Jennifer Lawrence swaps the drama for ribald laughs in this knockabout comedy from Good Boys director Gene Stupnitsky. She plays an Uber driver who loses her car and, in a desperate bid for cash, answers a bizarre Craigslist posting. The job: to help a gawky young teen (Andrew Barth Feldman) come out of his shell and lose his virginity.
Needless to say, the task is laced with all manner of mishaps and miscommunications as Lawrence ventures into her first fully-fledged mainstream comedy.
7. Asteroid City (released June 23rd)
Wes Anderson assembles a dazzling constellation of A-list talent for this typically off-the-wall and picaresque comedy drama. Asteroid City is set in the eponymous American desert town where both adults and kids are equally disenfranchised in the classic deadpan Wes Anderson fashion. However, a junior stargazing trip culminates in the apparent arrival of a UFO, and then everything starts to unravel.
Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, Steve Carell, Adrien Brody, Edward Norton, Tilda Swinton, Maya Hawke, Matt Dillon, Jeffrey Wright, Willem Dafoe and Jeff Goldblum are just some (yes, some) of the A-list names involved.
8. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (released June 28th)
Cinema's most iconic archaeologist-adventurer Indiana Jones confronts both the spectre of ageing and a dangerous new adventure in this, the fifth instalment of the legendary action movie franchise. Director Steven Spielberg steps aside in favour of Logan helmer James Mangold while the 80-something Harrison Ford continues to crack the whip in his signature role as Indy.
Indy is paired with his goddaughter Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) as they confront NASA scientist and incognito Nazi Kurt Voller (Mads Mikkelsen) who seeks the eponymous dial for his own nefarious ends. It's time to cue the John Williams theme and the travelling map graphics as Indy swings back into action.
9. Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken (released June 30th)
Ruby Gillman (voiced by Annie Murphy) is a sweet and awkward high school student who discovers she's a direct descendant of the warrior kraken queens. The kraken are sworn to protect the oceans of the world against the vain, power-hungry mermaids. Destined to inherit the throne from her commanding grandmother, Ruby must use her newfound powers to protect those she loves most.
