Who can resist the power of a classic horror movie on the big screen? There's nothing quite like the cinematic impact of a massive scare, which is further magnified by the communal presence of a crowd sitting around you.
With Halloween coming, we're delighted to present an onslaught of spooky spine-tinglers screening as part of our Cineworld Horror Season. Keep reading for more details.
What is Horror Season at Cineworld?
We're screening four classic horror movies and tickets are just £5. This is to prepare you for 2023's raft of new horror releases including The Nun II, Saw X, The Exorcist: Believer, and Five Nights at Freddy's.
What movies are showing as part of Horror Season?
Beetlejuice (screening Saturday October 28th)
Who says all horror movies have to be scary? In 1988, director Tim Burton announced his penchant for the amusingly macabre with Beetlejuice, fashioning a classic horror-comedy that memorably traverses the realms of the living and the dead.
Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis play the recently deceased newlyweds who are appalled at the yuppies who have moved into their old dream home. There's only one thing for it: contact undead 'bioexorcist' Betelguese aka Beetlejuice (a hilariously manic Michael Keaton) and get the pests removed.
Of course, it doesn't work out that way and Burton's imagination flies with all manner of crooked set-designs, stop-motion effects and affectionate allusions to classic horror cinema. The greatest special effect of all is Keaton: still in his pre-Batman days, the actor's maniacal riffing and zany physical presence as Beetlejuice is something to behold.
If you want to see how one of Hollywood's most singular filmmakers got his ghoulish and imaginative start, then you've come to the right place.
