Toho Studios' legendary movie monster Godzilla is back on the big screen this week in Godzilla Minus One. Put all thoughts of the English-language 'MonsterVerse' blockbusters out of your mind. This is a Japanese-language movie that returns the big lizard to home soil and it's a strategy that's worked: Godzilla Minus One is currently breaking box office records for a Toho Studios movie.
In the manner of the original 1954 Godzilla, the new movie deals with the atomic fallout of World War II. In the wake of the American attack on Nagasaki and Hiroshima, the shell-shocked Japanese citizens are then forced to contend with another threat in the form of the mutated, overwhelming Godzilla who is nothing less than an emblem of the country's atomic trauma.
Godzilla Minus One is directed by Takashi Yamazaki and promises to meld the spectacle with thoughtful, sobering ideas. The movie is showing at Cineworld in a multitude of premium formats that allow you to get closer to Godzilla than ever before. Here's how.
