Everyone's favourite brain-munching duo is back this October. Venom: The Last Dance is the third chapter in Sony's successful Venom superhero franchise but is it, as the title implies, the last instalment?
One thing's for sure, it looks action-packed and Tom Hardy again gets to go off the deep end as the bumbling human who just so happens to be infested with an alien symbiote. Check out the trailer below.
Keep on reading to discover the film's story, cast and release date.
What is the story of Venom: The Last Dance?
Journalist Eddie Brock and his symbiotic alien sidekick Venom are on the run. Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo is forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie's last dance.
Who stars in Venom: The Last Dance?
As mentioned, Tom Hardy reprises Eddie's physical role and Venom's vocal role. Throughout the three movies, Eddie and Venom have become (relatively) more simpatico, learning to banter with one another and better coordinate the attacks on their enemies.
The film co-stars Chiwetel Ejiofor (Oscar nominee for 12 Years a Slave and a player in Marvel's Doctor Strange movies), Juno Temple (who appeared in Christopher Nolan's DC epic The Dark Knight Rises), Rhys Ifans (Lizard from the non-MCU and MCU Spider-Man movies), Peggy Lu, Alanna Ubach and Stephen Graham (who reprises his role as ex-detective Patrick Mulligan from Venom: Let There Be Carnage).
Who directs Venom: The Last Dance?
Venom: The Last Dance is directed by Kelly Marcel. She takes over from Andy Serkis, who helmed Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and Ruben Fleischer who helmed the initial Venom movie.
Marcel is a noted screenwriter whose work includes the Disney biopic Saving Mr Banks and Fifty Shades of Grey. The film is directed by Marcel from a screenplay she wrote, based on a story by Hardy and Marcel.
Where does Venom: The Last Dance take place in Sony's Spider-Man Universe?
It remains to be seen. Recently, we've had Madame Web and Morbius in Sony's Spider-Man Universe, although it's unclear whether Venom will connect to either.
Is Venom: The Last Dance connected to the multiverse?
At the end of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Eddie and Venom find themselves mysteriously transported to a hotel room. They watched a news broadcast where J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons) revealed Spider-Man's identity on live television. In other words, it seemed to confirm that the Venom movies had crossed over with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Moreover, this acts as proof of the multiverse, which allows various franchises to share screen time. This has become standard in the MCU in the Spider-Man and Doctor Strange films and the Sony-owned Spider-Verse animations. However, it's new within the Venom universe. Might this allow Eddie/Venom to share the screen with Spider-Man for the first time?
