In a male dominated space, it’s always exciting when another woman superhero steps onto the scene, cape adorned, and ready to kick butt. And DC Universe’s latest superhero movie is definitely packing plenty of girl power punch with Milly Alcock’s Supergirl landing in Cineworld last week.
Alongside Supergirl aka. Kara Zor-El, there are more badass superheroes in the 2026 movie slate representing all the women.
Kara Zor-El in Supergirl (now showing)
Superman might be the most recongisable superhero there is, but Kara Zor-El is out here doing things her own way and carving out her own legacy beyond the shadow of her cousin. Milly Alcock’s Supergirl is unconventional in many ways.
She’s got jagged edges, a bit of a party girl streak, and she’s not exactly sold on the pomp of being all heroic. But she acts when it counts, and shows her strength through determination, courage, and moral conviction over pure brute force.
In Supergirl she finally gets to take to the mainstage in her own story, rather than being a secondary character to Superman and the like.
Teela in Masters of the Universe (now showing)
You know what’s great? Equality. And there’s plenty of that in Masters of Universe. Teela is a warrior and military leader, and one of Eternia’s greatest defenders, and she has an equal standing to He-Man himself. You wouldn’t want to get in a physical fight with Teela, because she is an incredibly skilled fighter.

Yelena Belova in Avengers: Doomsday (17th December)
Florence Pugh is back playing Yelena Belova in Avengers: Doomsday, alongside so many incredible women superheroes. The successor of Natasha Romanoff’s Black Widow (played by Scarlett Johansson), she utilises her deadly instinct as a former assassin for good.
One of the things that makes her a particular standout is the way she utilises past trauma to grow and do good. In a world trying to tell us to feel is to be weak, she shows that vulnerability is its own unique strength.
Sue Storm/Invisible Woman in Avengers: Doomsday (17th December)
Part of the Fantastic Four, she’s got not one, but two exceptional powers: invisibility and her awesome force-field. She’s also a big ol’ mamma bear, bringing to the MCU a compassionate leader who follows her heart. Much like Yelena, she showcases how empathy and strength aren’t mutually exclusive.
Shrui/Black Panther in Avengers: Doomsday (17th December)
We love to see a woman in STEM. Princess of Wakanda, Shrui will also appear in Avengers: Doomsday, portrayed by Letitia Wright. Utilising her science smarts and her fierce attitude, now the protector of Wakanda, Shrui leads by innovation and bravery.
