Denzel Washington directs Michael B. Jordan in the moving, fact-based drama A Journal for Jordan. The film focuses on a soldier serving in Iraq, Charles Monroe King (Jordan), who pens a journal for his infant son. King's story revisits his initial meet-cute with his son's mother, journalist Dana Canedy (Chanté Adams), which subsequently bloomed into romance and parenthood. The movie is, itself, inspired by the Pulitzer Prize-winning Canedy's bestselling memoir, which explores love beset by tragedy.
The movie screened in advance for Cineworld Unlimited members, so how did its blend of Oscar-winning prestige, charismatic star-power and swooning romance go down with audiences. Here's a selection of the responses.
Loved the film, beautiful portrayal of a love story and the grief of losing someone. Some pretty objective comments about war and also how this impacts the loved ones left behind. I agree with others on the pacing issues at times.

Beautifully done. Had to shed a tear at the end. Michael B. Jordan his usual brilliance.

Well acted, and a very powerful final act. Pacing issues, and a timeline that seemed to jump every which way in the first half meant that, sadly I didn’t love it as much as I wanted to. Not a bad film, by any means, but not top of my list of 2022 so far, either, I’m afraid.

Afraid it didn’t make me care about any of the characters. Didn’t think it was the story the title suggested either - not much about life lessons from the journal, just a rather slow and meandering love story. Disappointing.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie! I don't understand the low ratings on the film. The film brought everyone and myself mixed emotions and I really felt myself wanting to give Charles, Dana and Jordan a hug for they're lovable people. Overall I give the film an 8/10. Grade: B+! 😁😁
