1. Saltburn (released November 17th)
Promising Young Woman director Emerald Fennell uncorks an enjoyably nasty story of decadence and the upper 1%. Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan (The Banshees of Inisherin) plays a lonely Oxford Uni student whose initiation in the life and times of an upper-crust contemporary (Euphoria's Jacob Elordi) leads to shocking recriminations.
Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) and Richard E. Grant (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) are among the veteran supporting players in this twisted mixture of Evelyn Waugh and The Talented Mr. Ripley. And believe us when we say that Saltburn will have you looking at bathwater in a whole new light.
2. Anyone But You (released December 15th)
Can two enemies work together to affect a heartfelt romance? That's the premise of this goofy rom-com, which pairs rising stars Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria) and Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick).
Sweeney plays Bea and Powell plays Ben. These two individuals despise each other but must simulate their undying love while on holiday in Sydney. Can they make it work? Or will Cupid's arrow go astray?
3. Ferrari (released December 26th)
Adam Driver puts on his serious face to portray legendary car designer Enzo Ferrari. Driver works in tandem with director Michael Mann, himself no slouch in the intense drama department – after all, this is the director of Heat, The Insider and Collateral.
Ferrari traces the titular character's rise, fall and rise again, beginning with the death of his son Dino and speeding through to Ferrari's possible redemption at the 1957 Mille Miglia race in Italy. It's a Michael Mann film so expect scrupulous attention to detail in both the visuals and sound design. Penelope Cruz supports as Ferrari's wife Laura.
4. The Boys in the Boat
After a few directorial misfires, George Clooney promises to make waves again with this inspirational true story of the University of Washington rowing team. In 1936, just prior to the outbreak of World War II, the crew was selected to represent America at the Olympic Games in Berlin, and it was a life-changing experience for all involved.
The talented cast is headed by Calum Lynch (Fantastic Beasts) as the gold-medal-winning Joe Rantz. Joel Edgerton (Zero Dark Thirty) embodies the classic sports movie archetype of the gruff coach in his role as Al Ubrickson.
