If you were left hanging at the end of Marvel Studios' streaming series Ms. Marvel, then the teaser trailer for The Marvels should scratch that itch. Not only the sequel to 2019 blockbuster Captain Marvel, but it's also the third instalment of Marvel Phase Five, coming hot on the heels of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania and the soon-to-be-released Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (released May 3rd). And it promises to take Brie Larson's super-powered Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers in fun new directions.
To keep things fresh, the movie sees the actor regularly swapping positions with Ms. Marvel/Kamala Iman Vellani. That means the former is being bewildered down in suburban New Jersey, tapping into her comic side, while the latter gets to hot-foot it into space where she pairs up with the cat-like flerken Goose.
It's a neat way of variously destabilising and empowering the characters in the movie, hopefully amplifying the scenario for both humourous and exciting ends. Meanwhile, Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), the now-grown-up-daughter of Danvers' pilot friend Maria (Lashana Lynch), is teaming up with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to get to the bottom of what the hell is going on.
Candyman helmer Nia DaCosta is behind the camera and the trailer leaves us with several questions. Why is Nick Fury in space? Who is Zawe Ashton's villain? And how will the movie suggest that Danvers, Kamala and Monica are interconnected, as per the movie's poster?
No doubt we'll find out all this and more when The Marvel is released at Cineworld on November 10th.
