The Little Mermaid is about to become part of Disney's world of live-action remakes. Halle Bailey is our flesh and blood incarnation of the iconic Ariel, the mermaid who desires to become human, but discovers that all wishes come at a price.
A new teaser has been released in anticipation of the film's arrival this May. We don't get a lot of new footage, but we do get a brief glimpse of Ariel's land-lubbing love interest Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King), and an even briefer glimpse of Ariel's nemesis, Ursula (Melissa McCarthy).
The latter grants Ariel the ability to walk on land and mix with humans, but the spell turns out to have a sting in its tail. Javier Bardem plays Ariel's noble father, King Triton, while Jacob Tremblay, Daveed Diggs and Awkwafina voice the new versions of Flounder, Sebastian and Scuttle, respectively.
On the recording stage, Alan Menken returns to the territory for which he won an Oscar back in 1989. Menken's collaboration with the late Howard Ashman is credited with helping to kick-start the Disney renaissance period of the 1990s, injecting Broadway pizazz and energy into the hand-drawn template.
