Cineworld invites you to a land of fairytales as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of Shrek in style with a very special Swamp Screening. No, you won’t be sitting in the mud holding your nose to block out ogre odours. Instead, this is a fully interactive screening where dressing up, singing along and quoting those famous lines out loud are all actively encouraged.
Come dressed as your favourite character, hit the high and low notes sweetly or gruffly (completely up to you) and join fellow fans for a one-day-only celebration on 17 May.
And there’s more. We’ll be showing it in 4DX from 17 May, for Shrek’s 25th anniversary. Expect an awesome experience full of environmental effects, super-sized visuals and immersive sensory moments.
Dress-up as your favourite Shrek character
Thinking up a Shrek costume is time well spent. This is your chance to fully commit and come to the Swamp Screening as the character you love the most. Will you apply the green face paint liberally and don your tiniest waistcoat to go full-on Shrek? Or pull on a pair of grey ears to channel Donkey?
Whether you opt for a tiara like Princess Fiona or a Gingerbread Man mask, all styles are welcome – so dress up, have fun with it and be part of the swamp.
Quote it loud and get every word right
If you relish any opportunity to drop your favourite movie quotes into conversation, you’ll love our Shrek Swamp Screening. This is a screening where quote-alongs are not just allowed, they’re seriously encouraged.
From “Better out than in, I always say” to Donkey’s best one-liners, feel free to speak along as the jokes land and the iconic moments unfold. Duet with your neighbour, shout it from your seat, or join in with the whole room.
Sing along with the Shrek all-stars
Singing along is all part of the fun at the Shrek Swamp Screening, so warm up your voices. As soon as the opening credits roll and “All Star” kicks in, you’re invited to join in.
Even reluctant singers won’t be able to resist “I’m a Believer” as Shrek and Fiona find their happily ever after. After all, we’re here to celebrate fairytale endings, so bellow, warble or belt it out. However you sing, you’re doing it right.
Come along for the 4DX ride and experience Shrek, extra-sensory style
Because we appreciate ogres (like onions) have layers, we’re bringing you a multisensory experience of this Dreamworks classic. For the first time ever, you’ll be able to experience Shrek in 4DX – exclusive to Cineworld in the UK.

Short of feeling the heat of a fire breathing dragon, you can join Shrek and Donkey on their quest to save Princess Fiona from the tower she’s trapped in. And when we say join, we mean it’ll feel like you’re right there with them while sitting in your moving 4DX seats? Every jump, jolt, and rumble on the screen will be mirrored in the motion of your seats.

Let’s face it, the swamp probably doesn’t smell the best. It is a swamp after all. Targeting all the senses, though, you can expect to definitely smell something when watching Shrek in 4DX for its 25th Anniversary. We’re just hoping Donkey is sticking to his promise of making waffles in the morning… Expect atmospheric – hopefully mouthwatering – scents to waft into your screening.

Perhaps the defining plot twist of a generation? Spoiler alert, but the stunning princess is actually cursed and turns into an ogress at night. And let’s just say right at the climax of this screen (arguably characterising it as a romcom for that ending alone, iykyk) it’s going to get real bright and there’s going to be lots of ethereal wind. And you’ll be right there with her, with 4DX throwing in water and wind effects to really bring the movie to life – and into the cinema with you.
