Marvel Studios' Blade movie just got a lot more exciting with the announcement that Mia Goth is on board. The X and Pearl sensation joins two-time Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali as the eponymous Day Walker, promising to add to her litany of memorable roles in horror cinema.
Goth has rapidly become famous for her bold and fearless choices, which also includes the recent, transgressive and shocking Infinity Pool. There's no word yet on who she's playing but she and Ali will be assembling beneath director Yann Demange who replaced original helmer Bassam Tariq.
Demange won acclaim for his Troubles-set drama '71 and is here set to make his comic book movie debut. Created by Gene Colan and Marv Wolfman, Blade is the half-vampire, half-human scourge of bloodsuckers the world over and was previously embodied by Wesley Snipes from 1998 to 2004.
There were rumours that the new Blade movie would feature Kit Harington's Eternals character Black Knight. He and Ali's Blade crossed paths during the Eternals post-credits scene, although we never saw the latter's face, only heard his voice. However, it's since been alleged that Harington's role has been cut out, maybe due to the box office disappointment of Eternals itself.
As for Goth, we can only imagine the cracked and deranged ferocity she'll bring to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). One flash of that climactic rictus grin from Pearl and any number of Marvel enemies would surely go running for the hills. Goth will soon round off the Ti West-fronted horror trilogy with the upcoming MaXXXine.
Blade is set for release on September 6th, 2024. If that seems too far away, then line up for James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which hits Cineworld on May 3rd, 2023.
