We're thrilled to announce that Parasite is your Cineworld Unlimited screening on the 24th of January. It's the latest film from celebrated South Korean director Bong Joon-ho, and topped many 'best of 2019' lists around the world.
Joon-ho cements his reputation as one of the world's most exciting filmmakers, having skipped between a host of genres from crime (2003's Memories of Murder) to the monster movie (2006's The Host) and the dystopian sci-fi thriller (Snowpiercer). The director's incisive social commentary and offbeat black humour are very much evident in Parasite, which has been widely praised as his finest movie so far.
The film is a topical reflection (and twisted inversion) of the modern day class divide, in which a group of less-well-off individuals inveigle their way into the lives of a wealthy family. The group initially secures the trust of the family when one of their number poses as a child's tutor, but events soon take a shocking, mordantly funny turn.
Parasite won the Palme D'Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival and has received ecstatic responses from critics. Rolling Stone's Pete Travers writes: "Let's just say it: the South Korean auteur Bong Joon Ho is some kind of genius and he tops himself with 'Parasite'-it's explosive filmmaking on every level and one of the cinema high points of 2019. You won't know what hit you".
