It's National Siblings Day, and we thought we'd round up eight famous brother/sister, sister/sister and brother/sister pairings.
There's a lot of talent shared in the following families – scroll down to see if your favourite actors are featured.
1. Jonah Hill and Beanie Feldstein
Had no idea these guys were siblings? Yes, the Superbad and The Wolf Of Wall Street actor, now a respected director in his own right, is brother to Beanie Feldstein. She's the critically acclaimed star of 2019 coming-of-age comedy Booksmart, and will next be seen in Caitlin Moran adaptation How To Build A Girl, due for release in summer 2020.
2. Rooney and Kate Mara
Between them, the Mara sisters have amassed some formidable credits. Rooney is perhaps best known for her role as Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher's slick remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. She's also given critically lauded turns in the likes of Side Effects and Carol. Kate, meanwhile, first made a name for herself on TV hit House Of Cards, before going on to star in the likes of The Martian.
3. Warren Beatty and Shirley MacLaine
Hollywood lothario (and Oscar mixer-upper) Warren Beatty defined Hollywood cinema of the 1960s and 1970s. Propelled to fame opposite Faye Dunaway in Bonnie & Clyde, Beatty later asserted himself as a director of repute with the likes of Reds. Older sister Shirley is no less an icon, with a career stretching from Billy Wilder classic The Apartment to the more recent likes of Downton Abbey.
4. Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal
They might be siblings, but Jake and Maggie have only appeared in the same film once. That was trippy cult classic Donnie Darko in which they played, appropriately enough, squabbling siblings. Jake is, by now, a Hollywood veteran with Oscar nominations and superhero roles (Spider-Man: Far From Home) under his belt. Maggie has eked out a successful career in dramas and indie productions, including the recent, acclaimed The Kindergarten Teacher.
5. John and Joan Cusack
The Cusack siblings have appeared in several films together, including the terrific Nick Hornby adaptation High Fidelity. Both John and Joan share an affinity for offbeat, somewhat kooky characters, with the former famous for the likes of Say Anything and Being John Malkovich. The latter, meanwhile, won over a whole new audience with her exuberant vocal role as Jessie the cowgirl in Disney-Pixar's classic Toy Story movies.
6. Chris and Liam Hemsworth
Here are two Aussie brothers each with franchises under their belts. Chris shot to fame with his portrayal of Asgardian hero Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), having led the stand-alone Thor series and appeared in the Avengers movies. Brother Liam played lovestruck Gale opposite Jennifer Lawrence in the Hunger Games saga. Is it too much for both brothers to appear in the same film together? Never say never.
7. Ben and Casey Affleck
Starring opposite your sibling is one thing. Directing them is something else entirely. Ben and Casey Affleck have, in fact, starred in several movies together, including the Oscar-winning Good Will Hunting. That said, their most powerful collaboration is probably harrowing abduction drama Gone Baby Gone, directed by Ben and starring Casey as a detective despairing over the case of a missing child. We can't wait for the two to work the same magic again on another movie.
8. Owen and Luke Wilson
Back in 2001, quirky Wes Anderson drama The Royal Tenenbaums cast siblings Owen and Luke. (The former actually co-wrote the Oscar-nominated screenplay with Anderson.) Whereas Owen has carved out a niche as the sardonic, blonde comic presence in several other Anderson films, brother Luke recently played against type as an anguished, debt-ridden father in Donna Tartt adaptation The Goldfinch.
