Killers of the Flower Moon: go behind the scenes of the new Martin Scorsese movie

Killers of the Flower Moon is the latest drama from Martin Scorsese, revered doyen of classic movies including Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and Goodfellas.

Scorsese's new film is one of his most ambitious to date, a sweeping, turn-of-the-century factual conspiracy thriller that doubles up as a cautionary story of indigenous exploitation and systemic racism.

Based on David Grann's book of the same name, Killers of the Flower Moon explores the tragedy that befell the Osage Nation in Oklahoma. When the Osage became staggeringly wealthy after being deposited on oil-rich land, they then found themselves the targets of greedy venture capitalists and started dying in huge numbers.

Leonardo DiCaprio reunites with Scorsese to portray Ernest Burkhart, the war veteran who returns home to marry Osage woman Mollie (breakout star Lily Gladstone). They hope that the marriage will endure the horror that greets the Osage, although the influence of Ernest's corrupt uncle William Hale (Scorsese muse Robert De Niro) is never far away.

The cast also includes Jesse Plemons as the Texas Ranger turned FBI agent who is drafted in to get to the bottom of the killings. The movie is staged as an epic in every way, from its cultural exploration to its cast (also including John Lithgow and Brendan Fraser) and its mammoth four-hour running time.

Killers of the Flower Moon is widely expected to be a frontrunner at the Oscars. Go behind the scenes in the following clip and discover how Scorsese brought the story to the screen.
