Madness is catching in the forthcoming DC sequel Joker: Folie a Deux. In this follow-up to 2019's blockbusting and controversial Joker, Joaquin Phoenix's emergent supervillain Arthur Fleck, now incarcerated at Arkham Asylum, makes contact with psychiatrist Harley Quinn, played here by Lady Gaga.
We imagine that a truly bad romance is about to unfold, as marshalled by returning writer-director Todd Phillips. The filmmaker has now Instagrammed some on-set photos of Phoenix and Gaga in costume, so check them out below.
Given Gaga's involvement, it's expected that Joker: Folie a Deux (translated as 'a madness shared by two') will unfold as a musical. Zazie Beetz returns from the first movie and is joined by new faces Brendan Gleeson, Harry Lawtey, Jacob Lofland and Catherine Keener.
Phillips now claims to be hard at work on the initial edit of the movie, which will be released on October 4th, 2024. If that seems too far away, Phoenix fans can enjoy the actor's signature intensity in Ari Aster's horror-comedy Beau is Afraid, released on May 19th.
