Captain America 4 star Anthony Mackie has confirmed (via Instagram) that the movie has changed its name.
Formerly known as New World Order, the fourth instalment of Cappy's adventures is now titled Brave New World. Are they deliberately invoking the dystopian nightmare of Aldous Huxley's classic sci-fi novel?
As you can see, the image pairs Mackie's new Captain America incumbent Sam Wilson with new General Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross actor Harrison Ford. (He, of course, is soon to be seen in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.)
Captain America: Brave New World continues Sam's destiny in the wake of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. That, in turn, followed the climax of Avengers: Endgame in which the aged Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) handed over the iconic shield to his longtime partner for the first time.
Brave New World is a key chapter in Marvel Phase 5. The new Marvel era has started with this year's Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Still to come: The Marvels (released this November) and, post-Brave New World, The Thunderbolts, which is poised to unleash a new Marvel collective upon the world.
The latest Captain America movie re-introduces Liv Tyler and Tim Blake Nelson from 2008's overlooked The Incredible Hulk. No Tim Roth, though? Given his character, Abomination, made a cameo in Phase 4 movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings, we'd say that's a strange omission, although maybe the studio is keeping its cards close to its chest.
Brave New World also sports The Falcon and the Winter Soldier actor Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, and Carl Lumbly as the show's Isaiah Bradley, another recipient of the Super Soldier serum.
Luce and The Cloverfield Paradox director Julius Onah is behind the camera, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's Malcolm Spellman is writing the script alongside Dalan Musson.
Captain America: Brave New World is released on May 3rd, 2024.
