Disney sequel Mary Poppins Returns arrives on the big screen this December and looks practically perfect in every way. With Emily Blunt taking over the title role from Julie Andrews, and a host of new songs anchored by the presence of Hamilton musical sensation Lin-Manuel Miranda, it's poised to go down like the proverbial spoonful of sugar.
And you can now book your tickets ahead of the movie's release on 21st December.
The story picks up 30 years after the events of the original Disney classic. The Banks siblings, Michael and Jane, are now older (played by Ben Whishaw and Emily Mortimer), and are grappling with adult responsibilities. Michael has, like his father, become a banker, and is struggling to raise his children in the wake of his wife's death. Enter Mary, whose primary role, as before, is not to redeem the children but the grown-ups, reminding Michael and Jane what it once meant to be a child.
Directed by Chicago and Nine filmmaker Rob Marshall, with a supporting cast including Colin Firth, Julie Walters, Meryl Streep and a returning Dick van Dyke, it's bound to hit that nostalgic sweet spot. Early responses to the new musical sequences, including energetic lamp lighter number 'Trip a Little Light Fantastic', have praised the sequel's loyalty to the spirited, innocent tone of Disney's original 1964 masterpiece.
